OWSD Palestine National Chapter hosts A seminar on " Epigenetics and public health

Invitation for Seminar on
Epigenetics and public health
OWSD Palestine National Chapter and Palestine Academy for Science and Technology (PALAST) will host Dr. Alia kiwan, a research scientist and project leader in the Division Endocrinology at the University Hospital of Heidelberg
on Saturday, November 14th , 2020 at 6:00 pm via Zoom technology
Our exceptional speakers will discuss the main of Epigenetics science as an essential mechanism in human health and disease. Data from various diseases (cancer, neurological, immunological disorders, metabolic diseases, and recently Covid-19) have uncovered altered epigenomes from mutations, altered expression, and copy number alterations of numerous epigenetic factors. What is the reason behind the striking differences in Covid-19 progression? Old age, health history, blood groups, and being male have all been linked to more severe disease outcomes. Unfortunately, many young and healthy people have died of Covid-19, keeping scientists puzzled. While the significant explanation is an interaction of several contributing factors, epigenetics might play an important role.
Genome-wide analyses have illustrated the relationship between altered epigenetic states and disease onset and progression. My talk will cover the most current knowledge of epigenetic events in different disease models, including Covid-19.
Dr. Amira Shaheen, OWSD-Palestine Chair and Dr. Areej Khatib will moderate the webinar.
The seminar will be in Arabic
