The committee for community outreach in the OWSD Palestine National Chapter organized an interactive meeting with a group of school students via Zoom on Sunday, March 21st, 2021. The meeting was also attended by the Chapter chair and several members of the executive committee of the Chapter.
Dr. Sherin Hijazi, the winner of the Best Paper Award of the IEEE Systems Journal in 2020,
shared with the audience her journey in learning and education starting from her elementary school days all the way up to her current research in web security. She shared some of the challenges and how she overcame them during her early school days focusing on how these challenges made her stronger and more determined to carry on with her journey in learning and success. She also shared her journey of success in her work life and how she decided to continue her higher education to receive her PhD and do research, focusing on the role of those who had a positive impact on her and encouraged her to pursue a career in Academia and research to win an international award and become a faculty member in the Palestine Technical University-Kadoorie.
The audience whom majority were high school students, were very engaged and asked a lot of questions. Many of them asked for advices on dealing with some of the various challenges they currently face in education and learning, given the circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic and its effect on face-to-face education in the Palestinian schools and universities.
Ms. Areej Abdelrahman, a high school teacher and an active member in the committee for community outreach in the OWSD Palestine National Chapter facilitated the meeting.
