The Palestine Academy for Science and Technology, in collaboration with the German Juelich Research Center organized the second cooperation workshop within the Palestinian-German Science Bridge Project.
Professor Ghalib Al Natour of Juelich Research Center, explained that the Science Bridge Project seeks to achieve mutual benefit, especially in terms of developing scientific research in Palestine. He called for supporting student exchanges and stressed the need for joint projects to be discussed with common interest and real benefit, indicating the need to provide necessary support for these projects.
He asserted that the Science Bridge is a first step to find an infrastructure for scientific research in Palestine through scientific cooperation between Juelich Center and Palestinian universities.
Professor Al-Natour stated that Palestinian students can invest their research, skills and knowledge and then return to their universities to establish research groups there.
President of The Academy, Professor Marwan Awartani gave an overview of the role played by the Academy in linking Palestinian researchers with the German side, stressing the importance of benefiting Palestinian universities and taking this opportunity to assert Palestine’s position in scientific research. He explained that the Palestinian-German Science Bridge aims at strengthening the Palestinian scientific research system and developing research capabilities in various scientific and engineering fields, including nuclear and atomic physics, energy, neuroscience, agriculture, medical physics, geology, climatology, engineering, electronics, biomechanics, information technology, advanced simulation, supercomputers, botany and bioscience.
Professor Awartani stressed the importance of establishing national research facilities that provide researchers from different universities with advanced equipment, tools and technologies as well as supporting research services.
Dr. Rana Samara, Dean of Scientific Research at the Palestinian Technical University of Palestine - Kadoorie and member of the Science Bridge Advisory Committee, conducted the workshop sessions, in which research programs at Juelich Center were reviewed and the views of cooperation for joint research projects between both parties were discussed.
In the following two days, researchers from Juelich Center visited several Palestinian universities to hold field meetings and scientific meetings for the existing research groups and hold seminars for interested students and researchers to explore ways to build new research groups and create research cooperation between the two parties.
