The Academy organizes the Palestinian Plant Production and Protection Society expanded meeting

The Academy, in partnership with the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, Jerusalem (FNF), and in coordination with the Palestinian Plant Production and Protection Society (PPPPS), organized an expanded meeting for the Palestinian Plant Production and Protection Society.

The event was held in coordination with the Palestinian universities through their representatives in the Palestinian Plant Production and Protection Society Founding Council and in cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture and Palestinian Federation of Industries, and took place on April 29, 2019, at the Palestine Red Crescent Society, Al Bireh, Ramallah, in conjunction with Al Aqsa University in Gaza via videoconference.

The meeting was attended by a group of academics from Palestinian universities and professionals and experts working in the field of Agriculture in public and private sectors from the West Bank and Gaza. The meeting addressed the agriculture challenges issues related to the field, the reality and main challenges of plant production and protection in Palestine.

Dr. Ibrahim Al-Masri, Scientific Societies coordinator, commenced the meeting by welcoming the attendees in Ramallah and Gaza, and emphasized that this meeting came within the framework of the ongoing efforts by the Academy to establish or reactivate existing disciplinary and interdisciplinary scientific societies in the various fields, to promote and maximize the role of science and scientific research in economic and human development. 

PPPPS Founding Council, explained that the meeting was expanded after several preparatory meetings held by the Society Founding Council to launch the Society, gave an overview of its goals and objectives, and reviewed the main activities that will carried out during the upcoming year.

Dr. Abdallah Al-Omari from National agricultural research center (NARC) at the Ministry of Agriculture, presented the role of agricultural research on food security and rural development in Palestine.

Dr. Abd El-Rahman Tamimi from the Palestinian Hydrology Group (PHG), Dr. Ziad Fedah from National Agriculture Research Center (NARC), and Bassam Abu Ghalyoun from Palestinian Food Industrial Union (PFIU), presented the common challenges and interests with the Palestinian Plant Production and Protection Society.
