Amira Shaheen; is serving as the OWSD-Palestine National Chapter Chair. She was awarded a PhD in Epidemiology and Population Health from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine in 2019. Since 2012, Amira is working as Assistant Prof. in Epidemiology at An-Najah National University. Amira’s research interests are in child health, women health, mental health, environmental health, and injuries.
She supervised several students, locally and internationally, looking at different health problems that are priority of Palestine. Amira participated in different collaboration projects that were funded by EU. She ,as well, acted as a PI in two collaborative projects that are funded by the Medical Research Council (MRC) as well as the National Institute of Health Research (NIHR) that aims at enhancing the Palestinian health care response to violence against women. Amira is having publications in high impact factor peer reviewed journals. She was awarded the Elsevier-OWSD Early Career Research Award on 2019, representing the Arab World. Amid COVID-19, Amira participated in several researches that targeting the pandemic, and she is serving as a member at the National Epidemiological Committee that is advising the government on its response to the pandemic. Amira is acting as a member in the Board of Consultants at VISTO International for Rights and Development, as well as many other organizations.
