Title of Research: Transport through inhomogeneous, correlated one-dimensional Fermi system.
Research Purpose: The goal of this project is to understand the electronic transport properties of inhomogeneous systems of (quasi-) one-dimensional (1d) correlated fermions. This includes quantum wires with a single, local impurity or inhomogeneous two-particle interaction. In 1d the conventional Fermi liquid picture breaks down in the presence of two-particle interactions. The elementary excitation are collective, bosonic nature and the low-energy physics is described by the Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid theory. This shows in the electronic transport. Instead of the often used effective low-energy field theory here the 1d system will be modelled by a microscopic lattice model which allows to study the crossover from high to low energy scales . The correlations are treated (approximately) by the functional renormalization group (RG) approach .
