PalAST and FRQ meetings for exploring the possibility of cooperation after PQSB

12 September, 2023

Palestine Academy for Science and Technology PalAST and Fonds de recherche du Québec FRQ held two meetings to explore potential cooperation after the Palestine-Quebec Science Bridge (PQSB). These meetings were conducted via Zoom, during which both sides discussed a mechanism for PalAST's involvement in various programs of Fonds de recherche du Québec. They emphasized their willingness to renew the partnership.

At the outset of the meetings, the potential benefits from the results of the previous phase of the Science Bridge were highlighted. Both sides discussed future collaboration opportunities with FRQ, with a focus on leveraging the outcomes of the first phase of the PQSB program, which was executed by PalAST. They discussed how to build upon this success, particularly in terms of utilizing scientific expertise and providing future research infrastructure. They stressed the importance of continuing to develop the program and adding improvement-oriented aspects to enhance individual capabilities.

The Palestinian Quebec Science Bridge (PQSB) was launched in 2017 by PalAST and the Fonds de Recherche du Quebec (FRQ), Canada, following the signed agreement between the Academy and the Fonds de Recherche du Quebec (FRQ), Canada, and its three branches; the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Santé (FRQS), the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Nature et technologies (FRQNT), and the Fonds de recherche du Québec – Société et culture (FRQSC). This Seven-year project provides grants for short to medium-term research missions (two to six months) for Palestinian researchers at partner host universities in Quebec. These missions encompass fields such as health sciences, natural sciences, engineering, social sciences and humanities, as well as arts and letters."
