Prof. Hanan I. Malkawi

Prof. Hanan I. Malkawi, has earned her bachelor degree in Biological Sciences at Yarmouk University (YU)-Jordan, and  then she was offered a competitive scholarship from Yarmouk University (for scoring the highest GPA in Biology Dept. & the Highest GPA in the whole University) toward completing her M.Sc in Bacteriology & Public and then PhD degree in Microbiology & Molecular Biology both at Washington State University-USA, after which she returned to Jordan and appointed as assistant professor at Yarmouk University.

She has been heavily involved in research lines in  Microbiology, biotechnology and nanotechnology and their applications in environment, health, agriculture, microbiology, food security & industry. She has been and still also running and involved in several projects and initiatives in education, higher education & Quality assurance and linking academia with industry at both the national and international levels. 
She managed to get several funded grants from national & international agencies with More than 15 million of USD. 

She is a member of the Board of Trustees of Al Al-Bayt University-Jordan., Chair of the Academic committee & Member of the Board of Directors of the Scientific Research and Innovation Support Fund/Ministry of Higher Education & Scientific Research/Jordan, Member of the Experts Board of the Environmental Biotechnology section of European Federation of Biotechnology, Member of the Board of Trustees of the “Arab Science and Technology Foundation” (ASTF). She also served as the European Commission’s Higher Education Reform Expert (HEREs), for Jordan.

Prof. Hanan is known for her devoted efforts in helping and inspiring young scientists and, and entrepreneurs, to pursue their studies and research and build a career by assisting them with advice, mentorship and couching and providing them with guidance and feedback and engaging them with society and introducing them to people and organizations.

She registered several patents and has over 70 published papers in peer reviewed international scientific journals and outstanding teaching and supervision activities at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. She has & still been invited as speaker and member of Steering/organizing committees in numerous International Congresses, Symposia and Forums and participated and gave talks in more than 120 conferences and workshops world-wide. She received several awards and fellowships and is an active member in several national, regional and international committees, associations & organizations.
Prof. Malkawi has held several administrative positions: Former Vice President for Research & Int. Relations at Yarmouk University, Dean of Scientific Research & Graduate Studies, Director of UNESCO Chair for Desert Studies, Director of Foreign Projects Management Unit, Director of Center of Excellence for Jordanian Public University Libraries, Vice-Dean and Assistant Dean of Faculty of Sciences. She served also as Vice President for Science Engagement at Royal Scientific Society-Jordan. Dean for Research & Doctoral studies at “Hamdan Bin Mohammad Smart University”, Dubai-UAE.
