Title of Research: Soil amendments and resilient plants – sustainable usage of poorer substrates

Research Purpose: These Bachelor graduation projects aim to test effects of alternative biofertilizers on nutrient fate and save transfer, and plant performance, as well as early soil formation. It will be done on a scale from greenhouse to field with the aim to test effects of different biochar treatment (combined with manure or other biofertilizers) on, mainly, marginal substrates, and improve resource efficiency by characterization of the performance of different resilient plant species (e.g. salt-tolerant tomato, barley, eggplant but also possibly dandelion or fennel) in those treatments. Parameters to be tested are biomass or harvest quality as well as photosynthetic efficiency and others.

Aims of the research:

  1. To test effects of different biochar treatments in combination with manure or other biofertilizers on, mainly, marginal substrates in the poor soil.
  2. To improve resource efficiency by characterization of the performance of different resilient plant species (e.g. salt-tolerant tomato, barley, eggplant, but also possibly dandelion or fennel) in those treatments.
  3. To establish a proper approach for rehabilitation of poor soil for better crop plant yield•
