The Consultation Workshop on Science, Technology Innovation Indicators for Palestine was held by PALAST in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education and funded by UNESCO office in Cairo-Egypt.
The workshop was opened by Prof. Imad Khatib, Academy Secretary General, who welcomed participants and attendees from all national institutions, Palestinian universities. In his speech, he gave a presentation on the STI Policy for Palestine: Current Available Indicators, and he pointed out that the objective of this workshop was to setup the STI Policy draft for Palestine by reviewing the STI indicators collected by STI Observatory, and underlined the importance of having a documented reference for the Science, Technology Innovation indicators, and stated that this project is very important to Palestine because for the first time these collected indicators will be turned into a Policy statement that will act as a base for a strategic plan and a road map that hopefully will led Palestine to development.
At the end, all stackholders participated in an open disscussion and suggested the following Statements for the STI Policy:
- Curriculum responding to knowledge-based-Economy (KBE)
- More pupils in general education to scientific stream.
- Focusing on quality Education (Teaching and Learning).
- Education quality and output responding to KBE.
- Institutions links (Private-Government-Academic) and partnership.
- Matching universities programs and output to market needs.
- Industry funding research on a win-win relationship.
- Working on cultural and mind-set.
- Enabling Policies for KBE.
- Important of background information and indicators for making proper decisions.
- Reaching out programs for Palestinians in Diaspora.
Following that, Prof. Imad Khatib prepared the Palestinian STI Policy Framework Document that was submitted to UNESCO office in Cairo-Egypt, and they included this important document in the 2016 Global Science Report where they have reported acknowledgment to PALAST and have cited PALAST paper in SPINGER.
